Alcatel Lucent SA (NYSE: ALU) is trading higher on the session amid the network equipment provider making a new acquisition in the optical segment recently.

According to LightReading, Alcatel acquired Capella Photonics late last year. Capella is a specialist in wavelength selective switch (WSS), making products for optical cross connects as well as ROADMs (reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexers).

Though it was a smaller acquisition, it cam as Alcatel announced new job cuts and saw a 17.5 percent drop in revs for its Optics unit.

Another key player in the optics segment that traders will be eying is Finisar Corp (Nasdaq: FNSR).
