Airline Stocks Higher As Carriers Fill Seats (FAA)

Airline stocks are higher today following April load factor data from a number of major carriers, which was better than expected. The load factor represents the percentage of available seats that have been filled.

Load Factor Data:
  • US Airways (NYSE: LCC) said April passenger load factor was a record 84.8%, up 1.6%.
  • AMR Corp's (NYSE: AMR) American Eagle said April load factor of 72.6%, up 1.8%.
  • United Airlines (Nasdaq: UAUA) said its consolidated passenger load factor was 79.9%, flat with last year. But North America was up 1.4%.
  • On Friday, Continetal Airlines (NYSE: CAL) said April load factor was 82.3%, up 2.9%.
The airline ETF (NYSE: FAA) is up 4.8% today, representing the move higher in the group.
