Ahead of Nonfarm: Monster Employment Index Grows 8% in August

Ahead of nonfarm payroll numbers Friday morning, here's a summary of what Monster (NYSE: MWW) expects according to its Monster Employment Index for August.

Monster said its employment index rose 8 percent year-over-year to 147. The number is up 2 percent from 144 in July.

All metro markets tracked by Monster showed positive annual growth, and 16 of 20 industries showed positive growth trends.

The two top growth industries were Mining, Quarrying, and Oil and Gas extraction with a 55 percent growth, and Transportation and Warehousing, which had 27 percent growth. The lowest growth industries were Accommodation and Food Services with a 15 percent drop, and Public Administration with a 14 percent decline.

Detroit continued to show improvement, becoming the top metro mover for the second-straight month at 35 percent growth. Cincinnati was second at 32 percent. Denver, Miami, and New York City were the lowest growing metro markets at 8 percent.

For international data:

Monster Employment Index Europe registered a 21 percent annual growth rate in August. Germany continues to lead all countries in annual growth at 39 percent. Industrial production and related sectors continue to exhibit the strongest growth along with robust annual growth in the Telecommunications and Engineering sectors.

Monster Employment Index India recorded a 13 percent increase year-over-year in July, with continued annual growth for the Oil and Gas and Media/ Entertainment sectors. Education recorded the slowest growth in July.
