The integrated circuit (IC) industry is expected to see modest growth over the next three years, following a strong recovery in 2010.
According to Advanced Semiconductor Engineering (NYSE: ASX), the CAGR from 2011-14 will be about 7 to 9 percent. The outlook is stronger than its previous forecast which called for growth of about 5 percent from 2011-14, according to Digitimes.
Stockpiles in the second quarter were only three-days longer than in the prior quarter. Advanced Semi said there should be a sequential drop as companies have exercised caution around ordering and investing.
The outlook for fourth-quarter orders is still foggy, but smart moves by IC makers should translate into positive outcomes.
Advanced Semi still sees sales growth of 10 percent in 2011.
Shares of Advanced Semi are modestly higher Tuesday, while Semiconductor HOLDRs (NYSE: SMH) is down a little.
