Facebook (Nasdaq: FB) has the best of intentions for mobile; they just appear not to be playing out as hoped.
According to BoyGeniusReport (BGR) on Monday, U.S. wireless giant AT&T (NYSE: T) is going to stop sales of the HTC First. The handset is the first Facebook-focused smartphone.
News comes following AT&T cutting the price on the device to just 99 cents just one-month following its debut. Specific sales numbers weren't released.
Last week, it was said that downloads of Facebook's 'Home' initiative, which is a launcher app for Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android, have been around 1 million, though uninstalls are common. TechCrunch largely affirmed chatter over the weekend. As a comparison, it is said that about 400 million or more users access Facebook via their mobile device every month, with that number across all platforms (Android, iOS, WP8, etc.).
Facebook isn't likely to give up on mobile, which is going to be its bread-and-butter unit soon. Maybe a few tweaks to 'Home' will help retention and download numbers.
Shares of Facebook are up over 1 percent on the session.
