AT&T (T), Apple (AAPL) Working Together to Enable Tethering (VZ)

February 4, 2011 8:21 AM EST
When Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) announced last month that it would bring the iPhone 4 to Verizon (NYSE: VZ) after years of speculation, one of the biggest surprises was the addition wireless hotspot tethering on the network, a feature that had been lacking on the device's previously exclusive U.S. provider.

AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) is now working to bring the feature to its network in an effort to keep as many customers as possible from jumping ship to its rival.

"All I can say at this time is that we're working with Apple," AT&T spokesman Seth Bloom told AppleInsider.''

The tethering feature will finally allow AT&T customers to link their iPad with their iPhone on the network.

Verizon customers will have the ability to tether out of the box when the device is released on the network on February 10.
