AMD (AMD) Looks to Bolster Revs Via Embedded Solutions Expansion

January 30, 2013 10:19 AM EST
Advanced Micro Devices (NYSE: AMD) may be looking for better opportunities in a key growth market moving through 2013 and beyond.

According to Digitimes on Wednesday, AMD vice president Arun Iyengar will focus on expansion and partnerships for its Embedded Solutions business. It doesn't hurt that Iyengar is also general manager of the segment.

Embedded Solutions is expected to increase its revenue contribution from 5 percent up to 20 percent through the end of 2013.

Iyengar explained that, though it does take about 36 months to 60 months of development time to obtain orders for embedded solutions from a new client, shipments usually last for 5 years to 7 years, providing a solid foundation of revenue for the company.

In addition to aggressively forming a supply chain for embedded solutions, AMD is also creating a Heterogeneous System Architecture (HSA) foundation to allow for market scale and related application expansion.

Shares of AMD have given up early gains and are now down about 0.4 percent on the session
