For those waiting for an Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPhone from Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ), keep holding your breath because it does not appear to be in the wireless providers immediate plans.
This movie has been played out before. Every month or two rumors surface about the iPhone finally breaking away from its exclusive deal with AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) and coming to Verizon. And while it does seem inevitable, it is not seemingly coming anytime soon.
Verizon chief executive officer Ivan Seidenberg did nothing to boost the confidence of those waiting for an iPhone on his network, but signaled that he is hopeful that Apple will allow for a version of the device on Verizon's new 4G network.
The 4G network from Verizon is not open for service as of yet and will not be up and running until sometime next year.
This inability for Apple to find a way to get its popular smartphone onto another network will only cost the company down the road. Consumers are looking for the best option and without a choice of network the iPhone may lose some customers to Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) Android powered devices that are available from a myriad of providers.
