'Occupy' Protesters Clog Streets, Subways Around NYSE; Trading Unaffected
The Occupy Wall Street movement is making waves on Wall St. Thursday morning as protesters are attempting to block traffic flow into Manhattan's financial district.
Thousands of chanting occupiers marched from around Zuccotti Park (not within the park, as protesters were forced to leave earlier this week), eventually surrounding most major entrances to the area near the New York Stock Exchange. A heavy police presence in this general vicinity failed to deter protesters from actively disrupting workers from getting to their jobs. Tactics being used by the protesters include sit-ins (in the streets) and arm-locking across major intersections. Latest reports suggest more than 60 arrests have already been made.
Elsewhere in New York City, protesters are attempting to clog transit hubs (subways, etc) and have also occupied Liberty Square. Later this evening, at around 5pm ET, a large rally in Foley Square is planned, with a number of NYC's largest unions expected to turn out to support the Occupy movement.
Reports of centralized protests in Los Angeles are also being heard this morning.
Notably, Thursday marks the two-month anniversary of the Occupy Wall Street movement.
