'Don't Point Your Finger at Us, Google (GOOG)' - China

June 2, 2011 9:33 AM EDT
What is China's response to yesterday's revelation by Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) of a Gmail phishing scheme stemming from Jinan, China?

Don't point your finger at us.

According to Reuters, China's Foreign Ministry today said that it "cannot accept" accusations that hackers based in China attempted the break in. A spokesperson for the Ministry said that hacking is an international problem and China is also a victim.

Last year, Google also reported a cyberattack which they said began in China.

This recent piece of news might add more stress to Google and China's already tense relationship. Google eventually pulled out of China, leaving competitor Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) as the number one go-to search engine in the country.

Google shares are up slightly ahead of the bell today, while Baidu is modestly lower.
