Edgewater Research upgraded Unity Software (NYSE: U) from neutral to outperform, according to a research note issued by the firm.
Analyst Joe Whittine cited several factors supporting the upgrade, including improvements in the company's Vector performance and growing market share. The analyst noted that previous concerns about ironSource cannibalization appear to have subsided.
Whittine highlighted the contribution of D28 for in-app purchases, which has provided up to 20% more scale according to some feedback. The firm expects D28 for in-app advertising and Hybrid return on ad spend to serve as a tailwind over multiple quarters.
The analyst expects Unity's Runtime to be incorporated into Vector models this month, with performance contributions anticipated 6-12 months later. Whittine also pointed to Unity AI as an emerging driver, noting constructive feedback on the product currently in beta testing.
"Unity has unique defensibility," Whittine stated in the research note. "The installed base of games and developers provides an initial moat, and Unity is uniquely positioned as the integration point for game development and operation via the ubiquitous SDK distribution."
The analyst cited Unity's position in analytics, ad monetization, in-app purchase and payments integration, diagnostics, and updates as competitive advantages. Whittine noted monetization potential through both credit sales and upgrade opportunities from free-to-pro and pro-to-enterprise tiers.
Unity Software shares closed at $30.03 in the previous trading session.
