Ryder System Inc. (NYSE: R) announced that Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Robert E. Sanchez will retire on March 31, 2026, with President and Chief Operating Officer John J. Diez set to succeed him as CEO.
Sanchez, 60, who has served as CEO since January 2013 and chairman since May 2013, will transition to executive chair of the board to facilitate the leadership change. Diez, 54, was also elected to the company's board of directors, effective March 31, 2026.
The succession plan was approved by Ryder's board of directors. Diez has served as president and chief operating officer since January 1, 2025, and previously held the position of executive vice president and chief financial officer.
"John has an exceptional business track record, understands our customers' needs, and knows the company very well as a result of his more-than-20-year tenure with Ryder," said Michael F. Hilton, lead independent director of Ryder's board.
During his tenure with the Miami-based logistics and transportation company, Diez also served as president of Ryder's fleet management business and president of the dedicated transportation business unit.
"I've worked with John for over two decades and his deep understanding of our business, sound judgment and strategic mindset uniquely positions him to lead the company," Sanchez said in a statement.
Ryder provides supply chain, dedicated transportation, and fleet management solutions across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The company manages nearly 250,000 commercial vehicles and operates approximately 760 maintenance locations.
