FirstCash to shift CEO role to Stuart in January 2027

July 22, 2026 6:01 AM EDT

FirstCash Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq: FCFS) announced a planned leadership transition, with T. Brent Stuart set to become Chief Executive Officer and President on January 1, 2027, succeeding Rick L. Wessel, who will move to the role of Executive Chairman.

Wessel has served as CEO of FirstCash since November 2006. Stuart currently serves as President and Chief Operating Officer, a role he has held since the 2016 merger between FirstCash and Cash America International, where he had previously been President and CEO.

Stuart has also been added to the company's Board of Directors, effective immediately.

Separately, Daniel R. Feehan, the current Chairman of the Board, will retire from the chairman position but will continue as a board member. Feehan has over 40 years of service, including as CEO of Cash America prior to the 2016 merger.

The company said it anticipates entering into new three-year employment agreements in January 2027 with Wessel, Stuart, and R. Douglas Orr, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Wessel is expected to serve as Executive Chairman through at least the end of 2029.

Wessel said in a statement that the transition "is a natural next step in our long-term succession planning." Stuart said he is "honored to be selected as the next Chief Executive Officer."

FirstCash operates more than 3,300 pawn stores across 29 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, the United Kingdom, and Latin America. The company reported annualized revenues of more than $4 billion and a market capitalization of approximately $10 billion, according to the press release.

The company's second-quarter earnings release for the period ending June 30, 2026, is scheduled for July 23 before market open.
