Stocks Fall After Massive Japanese Earthquake

U.S. stock futures are following world stocks lower, after a major earthquake in northeastern Japan. It was the most powerful earthquake in 100 years.

Dow futures are down 43, Nasdaq futures are down 8.25 and the S&P 500 is down 3.

In Asia, the Nikkei 225 fell 1.8%, the Hang Seng fell 1.55% and the Straits Times fell 1%. In Europe, the FTSE 100 is down 0.6% and the DAX is down 1%

The size of the earthquake was massive at 8.9 and struck about 370 miles off the country's Northeastern coast. A 13-foot tsunami washed away cars and buildings in the city most impacted. At least 44 people are dead.

Tsunami alerts have been given around the Pacific Rim, and stretch to Hawaii and US west coast.
