American electric truck maker, Nikola (NASDAQ: NKLA) is recalling all 93 of their battery-electric Nikola Tre class 8 trucks due to the improper installation of the seatbelt assembly. Nikola imports cabs from Italy, where they are built by manufacturing partner Iveco, which is responsible for the defect.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue was discovered by a Nikola employee during a pre-delivery inspection, on July 18. In August-September, Iveco informed Nikola that "the final torque on the passenger seat belt shoulder anchorage was not installed to specification, is susceptible to cross threading and that the condition may exist on other trucks".
After an investigation, it was determined that "the original design of the seat belt shoulder anchorage could be improved by reducing the size of a spacer between the bolt and the adjuster".
There have been no reports about warrenty claims or customer complaints due to this issue.
Shares of NKLA are up 4.71% in early trading, Monday.
