Five IPOs Open Today, Two Winners and Three Losers

September 24, 2009 11:14 AM EDT
All five of today's expected IPOs are now open for trading. Two have gone off nicely, while the other three have flopped so far.

By far the hottest of the newbies is lithium-ion battery maker A123 Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: AONE). After pricing at $13.50, above the expected range, shares have rocketed above $18 after opening.

Artio Global Investors Inc. (NYSE: ART) also went off better than expected. Shares are trading at $27 after pricing at $26, the high end of the expected $24-$26 range.

Well guess who managed in the two good IPOs? None other than Goldman Sachs!

Today's IPO flops were:
  • Apollo Commercial Real Estate Finance, Inc. (NYSE: ARI): Trading at $18.90, after pricing at $20.
  • Colony Financial, Inc. (NYSE: CLNY): Trading at $19.46, after pricing at $20
  • Vitacost.com (Nasdaq: VITC): Trading at $11.51, after pricing $12.
