Dan Loeb's Third Point LLC new position in Boeing (NYSE: BA) is credit, not equity, according to a source. In a notice today, Third Point's Offshore Fund listed Boeing as a month-to-date winner, driving speculation the known rabble-rouser could shake the tree at the embattled aircraft maker.
While rumors have been circling about an activist in Boeing, it is not Third Point, it was added.
Boeing recently raised a massive $25 billion in debt, bypassing direct government aid. Third Point may have participated in this capital raise.
Shares of Boeing are rising over 6% in early action Wednesday, in part on the Third Point disclosure.
