Steel Dynamics Inc. (NASDAQ: STLD) provided third quarter 2025 earnings guidance of $2.60 to $2.64 per diluted share, representing an increase from second quarter earnings of $2.01 per share and prior year third quarter earnings of $2.05 per share.
The Fort Wayne, Indiana-based company expects improved earnings from each of its three operating platforms. Steel operations are projected to show stronger profitability than the second quarter, driven by strong shipments and metal spread expansion as scrap raw material costs decline more than average realized steel pricing. The non-residential construction, automotive, energy, and industrial sectors continue to drive demand.
Metals recycling operations are expected to generate significantly stronger earnings than second quarter results, based on steady shipments and stronger ferrous metal spread. Steel fabrication operations are also projected to show higher earnings than the second quarter, driven by increased volume and steady metal spread.
The company continues commissioning its Columbus, Mississippi aluminum flat rolled products mill and San Luis Potosi satellite recycled slab center. The cast houses and hot strip mill are operating above expectations for this stage of startup, with commissioning ongoing in other facility areas including the cold mill.
Steel Dynamics repurchased $185 million, or one percent, of its common stock during the third quarter as of September 11, 2025. The company plans to release third quarter 2025 earnings after market close on October 20, 2025, followed by a conference call the next day at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time.
