Prenetics Global Limited (NASDAQ: PRE) announced the closing of a $1 billion growth financing arrangement with General Catalyst's Customer Value Fund (CVF) to support marketing and customer acquisition for its wellness brand IM8.
Under the arrangement, General Catalyst's CVF will finance up to 70% of IM8's marketing spend. In return, General Catalyst will receive a capped share of income tied to the performance of customer cohorts financed through the program. Once General Catalyst recovers its investment and capped return on a given monthly cohort, all subsequent value from those customers accrues to IM8. The arrangement does not involve the issuance of equity, warrants, or convertible instruments.
Prenetics said the company held approximately $139.7 million in combined estimated cash balances, current financial assets, and cash consideration held in escrow and holdback as of May 31, 2026. The company also announced a $40 million share repurchase program earlier in 2026.
The $1 billion facility is intended to fund digital performance marketing, offline and connected-TV media, ambassador and athlete partnerships, brand activations, content production, and retention marketing across IM8's 43 markets.
For accounting purposes, Prenetics will classify the arrangement as a financial liability on its consolidated balance sheet, with the return component recognized as interest expense below operating income. Marketing spend will continue to be recorded as sales and marketing expense.
Danny Yeung, Chief Executive Officer of Prenetics, said in a statement that every dollar spent acquiring customers has returned $1.44 in gross profit, and that the financing allows the company to accelerate brand and marketing across 43 countries without issuing new shares.
Adit Swarup, Partner at General Catalyst, said IM8's cohort retention data is "highly consistent across geographies, subscription tenors, and product lines."
