Main Street Capital reports preliminary Q4 results, tax treatment

Main Street Capital Corporation (NYSE: MAIN) announced preliminary fourth quarter 2025 operating results, showing estimated net investment income of $1.01 to $1.05 per share and distributable net investment income of $1.07 to $1.11 per share.
The Houston-based investment firm estimates its net asset value per share reached $33.29 to $33.37 as of December 31, 2025, representing an increase of $0.51 to $0.59 per share from the prior quarter's $32.78. This increase occurred after accounting for a supplemental dividend of $0.30 per share paid in December 2025.
Main Street estimates it generated a return on equity exceeding 17% for both the fourth quarter on an annualized basis and the full year 2025. The company projects investments on non-accrual status comprised 1.0% of the total investment portfolio at fair value and 3.3% at cost as of December 31, 2025.
Fourth quarter investment activity included $300.0 million in lower middle market portfolio investments, resulting in a net increase of $253.1 million in total cost basis after repayments. Private loan portfolio investments totaled $231.4 million, with a net increase of $108.8 million in cost basis.
The company paid dividends totaling $4.23 per share in 2025, with approximately 8% taxed as qualified dividends and 92% as ordinary income. For non-U.S. shareholders, about 47% of the dividends qualify for exemption from U.S. withholding tax.
Main Street will release complete fourth quarter and full year 2025 results on February 26, 2026, followed by a conference call on February 27, 2026.
These preliminary estimates are subject to completion of year-end closing procedures and third-party audit, and actual results may differ materially from current projections.
