Lakeland Industries Inc. (NASDAQ: LAKE) issued a shareholder letter acknowledging that fiscal year 2026 financial results fell short of expectations despite strategic progress in expanding its fire protection business.

CEO Jim Jenkins stated the company faced revenue and gross margin shortfalls due to external factors including new tariffs, freight cost increases, raw material inflation, and supply-chain disruptions. Internal challenges included political uncertainty in certain markets, certification timing delays, and material flow issues.

The company completed four acquisitions in 2024 and worked on integration throughout 2025 as part of its strategy to build a portfolio of fire brands in what it describes as a fragmented $2 billion market. Notable contract wins included a $5.6 million three-year agreement with Hong Kong Fire Services Department and a $3.1 million order from Italy's Ministry of the Interior.

Lakeland completed a $6.1 million sale and partial leaseback of its Decatur, Alabama warehouse, generating a $4.3 million gain. The company also acquired Arizona PPE Recon Inc. and California PPE Recon Inc., which together generate approximately $5 million in annual recurring revenue.

Looking ahead, Jenkins said the company is pursuing approximately $178 million in global tender opportunities, with roughly $38 million in opportunities over $100,000 in value. Lakeland LHD secured a contract renewal of up to 12 years with Fire and Emergency New Zealand, extending a relationship spanning more than 22 years.

Jenkins and other management team members have made open-market purchases of company stock, according to the letter. The company manufactures protective clothing and accessories for industrial and first responder markets globally.
