January 7, 2026 4:12 PM EST

AbbVie Inc. (NYSE: ABBV) announced it expects to record $1.3 billion in acquired in-process research and development and milestones expense on a pre-tax basis for the fourth quarter of 2025.

The expense will reduce both GAAP and adjusted non-GAAP diluted earnings per share by $0.71 for the quarter ended December 31, 2025. The pharmaceutical company stated its fourth quarter results have not been finalized and remain subject to financial statement closing procedures.

The company updated its full-year 2025 adjusted diluted earnings per share guidance to a range of $9.90 to $9.94, incorporating the fourth quarter expense impact. Fourth quarter 2025 adjusted diluted earnings per share guidance was set at $2.61 to $2.65.

AbbVie's previous earnings guidance announced on October 31, 2025, excluded the impact of acquired research and development and milestones expense that might be incurred beyond the third quarter of 2025. The company noted it does not forecast such expenses due to uncertainty regarding the timing and occurrence of collaborations, licensing agreements, and other asset acquisitions.

The information is based on preliminary estimates from the company's press release statement, and AbbVie indicated final results could differ from these estimates.
