Facebook Likes - Differentiate Between Page And Post Likes!

November 7, 2024 7:10 AM EST

Have you ever thought about the difference between liking a Facebook page and liking a post or status update from a friend?

Or maybe you've noticed that your company page gets lots of likes on posts, but not many people actually like the page itself?

If you have, you're not alone. With Facebook frequently changing names (like fans, friends, and likes) and updating its policies, many small business owners are unsure how to get more likes on their pages and boost engagement on their posts.

What's the Difference Between Liking a Page and Liking a Post?

Liking a Page means - you're following that Page. Meanwhile, liking a friend's post - shows you appreciate what they shared without having to comment.

When you like a Page, you'll see updates from it in your News Feed, and it will show up on your profile. You'll also be listed as someone who likes that Page.

Both types of likes affect how many people see your posts, which can impact how successful your marketing is on Facebook.

Why Post Likes Don't Convert Into Page Likes

For a like on a post to become a like on a page, the following steps need to happen:

-Someone who doesn't follow you (hasn't liked your page yet) sees your post.

-They click on your company page or hover over the link to see the like button.

For instance, this morning, I came across a magazine item on my Facebook News Feed. It appeared because one of my friends commented on it, even though I did not follow them.

I could like, comment, or click the share button to share this with my friends because I think it is humorous. I will not be linked to their website, however, even if I do any of those actions. In order to see their upcoming updates, I must either click the link to access their website or move my mouse pointer over the link until the "like" button appears.

Most individuals do not take the time to try, and many are unaware that they are capable of doing that. Therefore, we must take certain actions to boost Page Likes rather than only depending on our content.

Getting More Facebook Page Likes

Business owners used to use "Like Gates" or "Fan Gates" to make people like their page before they could do things like download a free report. This was similar to how you would set up a sign-up form on your website.

Unfortunately, Facebook no longer allows this, so we can't make anyone like our page before they take action.

Now, we need to encourage people to like our pages. Just like with any marketing, we have to explain the benefits to them so they want to like our page. Here are some ideas to help you get more Facebook likes:

-Inform the people on your list about your Facebook page via email. Remind them to like it so they do not miss any news, and let them know what they may discover there.

-Consider your company page (not your personal profile) to be similar to the business pages of your clients. Many will probably do the same. Treat your professional acquaintances and business partners the same way.

-Ask attendees of your events, webinars, and seminars to like your Facebook page. Make sure they have a valid motive to do so.

-Like the pages of potential customers, you want to do business with.

-To reach folks who match your ideal client profile, think about putting advertisements on your page.

-Advertise your Facebook profile on your website, in your email signature, and in your business.

-Organize competitions to get visitors to your page. Offer rewards and remind people to like your page since you cannot make them do so in order to enter.

Now that you understand the difference between page likes and post likes and why one doesn't automatically lead to the other, you can take steps to target the likes you want to receive.
