Michael Gabelli Launches Inaugural Scholarship for Future Public Servants
NEW YORK, NY - August 22, 2026 - Michael Gabelli, Managing Director and President of Gabelli & Partners, has announced the establishment of the Michael Gabelli Scholarship for Public Servants, a new award designed to support undergraduate students who demonstrate a strong commitment to civic engagement and public service careers.
The scholarship worth $2,500, which opens for applications today, reflects Michael Gabelli’s longstanding belief in the power of service and community leadership. Rooted in the values of discipline, perseverance, and responsibility that shaped his own upbringing, the award seeks to identify and encourage the next generation of leaders who will make a meaningful impact in government, nonprofit organizations, and community development.
“Michael Gabelli has always believed that true leadership is measured by one’s contribution to the well-being of others,” said a spokesperson for the scholarship. “This award is an extension of that philosophy—a way to invest in students who share his commitment to serving the public good.”
The Michael Gabelli Scholarship for Public Servants is open to full-time undergraduate students enrolled at accredited colleges and universities across the United States. Eligible applicants must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and demonstrate a clear dedication to public service through volunteer work, internships, or community involvement. Candidates pursuing careers in government, public policy, social work, education, nonprofit management, or related fields are strongly encouraged to apply.
To be considered, applicants must submit a personal essay of 500 to 750 words describing their commitment to public service and how they plan to make a positive impact on their community or society through their career. The essay should reflect on the experiences that have shaped their dedication to serving others and explain how the scholarship would support their educational and professional goals. Applications must also include a current academic transcript and a resume or CV highlighting community involvement and leadership experience.
All application materials must be submitted via email to [email protected] with the subject line “Michael Gabelli Scholarship Application – [Applicant Full Name].” The deadline for submissions is May 15, 2027, and the recipient will be announced on June 15, 2027.
The selection process will be essay-based, with a panel evaluating applicants on the strength of their personal narrative, academic record, and demonstrated commitment to public service. The award is a one-time scholarship and is not renewable.
Michael Gabelli’s own career path reflects a deep engagement with both business and community. As the head of Gabelli & Partners’ Alternative Investment Group and Director of Global Business Development for GAMCO, he has built a reputation as a thoughtful leader dedicated to disciplined investing and long-term value creation. His philanthropic work spans numerous organizations, including the Boys & Girls Club, Special Olympics NY, the Ovarian Cancer Society, Northwell Health Foundation, and the United Way of Greenwich, among others. For more than a decade, he also volunteered as a youth baseball and football coach, mentoring young athletes and instilling in them the values of teamwork, perseverance, and leadership.
