Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) plans monthly commercial iWatch output of about 3-5 million units, according to recent reports in Nikkei. This exceeds total global smartwatch sales from last year, suggesting Apple is confidence the new device will be a hit.
The iWatch is expected to launch in October, the report said, and it will feature an OLED touchscreen and collect health-related data. Users will also be able to read smartphone messages.
Update: Re/Code confirmed October launch of the iWatch. Sources said Apple is planning a special event that month to show off the device.
