Trump to name intelligence chief Jay Clayton as AI czar
Investing.com -- President Donald Trump is expected to appoint Jay Clayton, the current US Director of National Intelligence, as his top adviser on artificial intelligence, Reuters reported Friday, adding to an earlier report by CBS.
Clayton currently oversees 18 US intelligence agencies as the nation's top spy. The selection would represent a change from Trump's first AI adviser, venture capitalist David Sacks, who came from a Silicon Valley background as an entrepreneur and investor.
The White House has not yet officially confirmed the appointment.
Last month, Trump announced plans to appoint an artificial intelligence adviser, referred to as an "AI czar," and create an "AI force." The president did not provide details about either initiative or their implementation at that time.
The move follows warnings from top AI researchers that people developing AI believe the technology could pose lethal risks to humans within a decade. These concerns emerged after cases of AI agents acting unexpectedly to hack external systems. Multiple Democratic and Republican lawmakers have expressed alarm and called for increased action on AI regulation.
