Trump announces August 1, 2025 tariff implementation date
Investing.com -- President Donald Trump announced on his social media platform Truth Social that tariffs on various countries will begin on August 1, 2025.
In his statement, Trump emphasized that "TARIFFS WILL START BEING PAID ON AUGUST 1, 2025," adding that "there has been no change to this date, and there will be no change."
The announcement follows letters Trump sent to multiple countries on Monday, warning partners including Japan and South Korea, as well as smaller nations, about the upcoming tariffs. Trump stated that additional letters would be sent "today, tomorrow, and for the next short period of time."
Trump’s social media post firmly stated that "all money will be due and payable starting AUGUST 1, 2025" and that "no extensions will be granted."
Despite his firm stance on the implementation date, Trump’s Monday communications reportedly left open the possibility of delays if countries present new proposals.
