Toyota Motor Corp (NYSE: TM) said it will put all domestic factory operations on hold after one of their suppliers of plastic parts and electronic components suffered a cyberattack.
The timing of the attack corresponded to Japan’s decision to join Western allies taking a stand against Russia and to help Ukraine with $100 million in emergency aid, but it is still not clear whether this is related to the attack.
Fumio Kishida, Japanese Prime Minister, said his government would investigate the incident and the possibility of Russia’s involvement.
"It is difficult to say whether this has anything to do with Russia before making thorough checks," he told reporters.
The company is set to lose around 13,000 cars of output by suspending work at 14 of its plants for Tuesday and is yet unaware if this will last more than a day.
The halt also affects a few of Toyota's affiliates, Hino Motors and Daihatsu.
