The Dow Dropped 30 Points, Nasdaq Added 13

The Dow dropped 30.49 points today to close at 13,090.86, the Nasdaq added 12.71 points to close at 2,521.30 and the S&P 500 gained 1.57 points to close at 1,447.12. Oil fell $0.86 to close at $71.12 per barrel.

Volume was heavy on the NYSE with 3.07 billion shares traded and 1.73 billion shares traded on the Nasdaq. Advancers topped Decliners on the NYSE by a margin of 20:13 and 16:15 on the Nasdaq.

In individual stories, recent IPO, VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW) jumped 15% after Baird initiated coverage on the stock with a Neutral and said it sees continued revenue growth from the company over the next few year. Also, last night, Barron\'s wrote a positive article on VMWare and EMC Corp. (NYSE: EMC)

Oplink Communications (Nasdaq: OPLK) dropped 14.1% after reporting Q4 adj-EPS of $0.23, versus the consensus of $0.25. Revenues came in at $37.2 million versus the consensus of $30.41 million. Sees Q1 revs of $46-$50 million. Sees Q1 EPS of $0.10-$0.12, ex-items.
