Republicans Gain Control of the House, Pick-Up Seats in the Senate

As had been expected, the Republican party is projected to pick up at least 50 seats in the House and will gain control. Republicans will also gain seats in the Senate, but will not likely take a majority.

The results are a clear repudiation of President Obama and his policies.

Tea party backed candidates shined with Rand Paul (R) defeating Jack Conway (D) in the Kentucky Senate race and Marco Rubio (R) winning in Florida. In his victory speech, Rand called it a "tea party tidal wave."

GOP pick-ups in the Senate included Dan Coats (R) Indiana, John Boozman (R) in Arkansas and Gov. John Hoeven (R) in North Dakota.

Democratic Governor Joe Manchin fended-off Republican John Raese for the West Virginia Senate seat that belonged to Robert Byrd. Democrat Richard Blumenthal is also projected to beat Republican Linda McMahon in Connecticut. Christine O'Donnell (R) was easily beat by Chris Coons (D) in Delaware.

Republican also won a host of gubernatorial races, including Tom Corbett (R) in Pennsylvania, and Rick Snyder (R) in Michigan. Democrat Andrew Cuomo won the New York governor's race.
