PIMCO paid Bill Gross $290 million bonus for 2013, according to Bloomberg, citing a document containing the information.
UPDATE - Gross' pay comes amid his Total Return Fund (PTTRX) trailing most of its peers.
In addition, former PIMCO CEO and co-CIO, Mohamed El-Erian, was paid $230 million for 2013.
PIMCO issued a statement to Bloomberg, stating, While Pimco does not comment on compensation, the figures provided to Bloomberg are not correct .. For more than three decades, Pimco’s managing directors have maintained a substantial interest in the firm, currently 30 percent of profits, and this provides an important means to attract and retain the best investment talent to serve our clients.
The spokesperson declined to specify the firm's objections.
Notably, Blackrock's (NYSE: BLK) Larry Fink was compensated $22.9 million last year, while Allianz SE CEO Michael Diekmann received €7.2 million (about $8.99 million). Allianz is the parent company of PIMCO.
