OpenAI’s former head of data centers joins Nvidia

Investing.com -- Chris Malone, OpenAI's former head of data centers, joined Nvidia as vice president of the company's DSX Platform this month, according to his LinkedIn profile. The DSX division helps customers design and build AI data centers according to Nvidia's specifications.

Malone departed OpenAI in August during a series of executive departures at the AI company, which plans to go public in 2027. He had joined OpenAI in March 2025, shortly after the company announced Stargate, an effort with Oracle and SoftBank to build data centers to meet its growing computing needs.

Before joining OpenAI, Malone worked on data center infrastructure at both Meta and Google.

In August, Nvidia agreed to provide $105 billion in credit support for a 10-gigawatt data center in Ohio to power and data center developer SB Energy on behalf of OpenAI. OpenAI would lease the facility and has agreed to fill it with hundreds of billions of dollars worth of Nvidia chips.
