• Delta Petroleum Corporation (Nasdaq: DPTR) entered into a strategic financing agreement with Tracinda Corporation, a private investment corporation wholly-owned by Kirk Kerkorian. Under the agreement, Tracinda will invest $684 million to acquire common stock from the Company at $19.00 per share, a 23% premium to Friday\'s close.
  
  
• AEGON (NYSE: AEG) and Merrill Lynch finalized their agreement to form a strategic business relationship in the areas of insurance and investment products.
  
  AEGON USA, Inc. also completed the acquisition of Merrill Lynch Life Insurance Company and ML Life Insurance Company of New York for USD 1.25 billion in cash.
  
  
• According to reports from British newspaper The Observer, Merrill Lynch & Co (NYSE: MER) is in negotiations with Chinese and Middle Eastern sovereign wealth funds to raise additional capital.
  
  Just last week, Merrill Lynch announced a $6.2 billion cash infusion from Temasek Holdings and Davis Selected Advisors, but the report said this was not enough and more will be needed to shore up the balance sheet due to expected subprime and CDO related write-offs.
  
  The paper said Merrill Lynch\'s new CEO John Thain canceled New Year\'s leave for his top executives to look at various options.
