Twitter owner Elon Musk has already stopped the new "official" designations on Twitter, reversing the decision after initially rolling out the label to various accounts on Wednesday.
Twitter product executive Esther Crawford provided specifics on how the new verification system will operate on Tuesday.
Crawford explained that some originally verified accounts would be given an "official" label, while users who pay $7.99 per month for Twitter Blue would have a blue check mark.
On Wednesday morning, various well-known accounts had the "official" designation, but the labels were gone by Wednesday afternoon.
Musk Tweeted: "Please note that Twitter will do lots of dumb things in coming months.
"We will keep what works & change what doesn't."
Crawford also tweeted after the reversal, stating: "There are no sacred cows in product at Twitter anymore. Elon is willing to try lots of things -- many will fail, some will succeed. The goal is to find the right mix of successful changes to ensure the long-term health and growth of the business."
In a further tweet, she said: "The official label is still going out as part of the @TwitterBlue launch -- we are just focusing on government and commercial entities to begin with. What you saw him mention was the fact that we're not focusing on giving individuals the "Official" label right now."
