Michigan Jewish synagogue faces an active shooter situation

Investing.com -- Police are responding to an active shooter threat at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan on Thursday.

The incident is taking place at Temple Israel, located on Walnut Lake Road. Smoke was observed coming from the building, with multiple police vehicles positioned around the perimeter and throughout the surrounding area.

Authorities have issued a shelter-in-place order for all schools and houses of worship in the area. The public has been asked to avoid the location.

Police agencies are responding to other temples in the area to provide additional security as a precautionary measure.

The Jewish Federation of Detroit released a statement acknowledging the security incident. The organization advised all Jewish organizations to implement lockout protocol, with nobody permitted to enter or exit buildings.
