Investing.com -- On Friday, LyondellBasell Industries (NYSE: LYB) reported third quarter results that fell short of analyst expectations, with adjusted earnings per share of $2.54 missing the consensus estimate of $2.57 and revenue of $8.5 billion coming in below the $8.86 billion forecast.
Shares of the company were down 0.55% in pre-market trading following the results.
Revenue increased 10% YoY from $7.7 billion in the third quarter of 2025.
The company reported net income of $758 million, or $2.32 per diluted share, for the third quarter. Excluding identified items totaling $70 million after tax, adjusted earnings were $2.54 per share. EBITDA reached $1.4 billion, or $1.5 billion excluding identified items.
"In an evolving macroeconomic environment, we delivered another quarter of strong earnings and robust cash conversion through disciplined execution underscored by the strength of our global, cost-advantaged portfolio," said Peter Vanacker, chief executive officer.
Market conditions remained dynamic throughout the quarter as ongoing geopolitical uncertainty impacted key markets. Profitability in the Olefins and Polyolefins Americas segment declined compared to the second quarter, driven by lower prices for polymers and olefin products. However, the Intermediates and Derivatives segment delivered materially higher quarterly profitability, largely driven by oxyfuels.
LyondellBasell generated $1.7 billion in cash from operating activities during the quarter, including a working capital release. The company allocated $303 million to capital expenditures and returned $224 million to shareholders through dividends. The company also repaid its €500 million note maturity in September as planned.
For the fourth quarter, the company expects normal seasonal demand patterns along with ongoing supply uncertainty. LyondellBasell anticipates operating rates of 85% for North American O&P assets, 60% for European O&P assets and 75% for I&D assets. The company expects a seasonal release of working capital in the fourth quarter.
