Lundbeck approaches Xeris Biopharma over potential takeover, Bloomberg reports
Investing.com -- H Lundbeck (LON:0ND5) has expressed interest in a potential takeover of Chicago-based commercial-stage drugmaker Xeris Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ: XERS), according to people familiar with the matter cited by Bloomberg. The Danish pharmaceutical group has been working with financial advisers to explore an acquisition of the U.S. firm, though discussions remain preliminary and may not result in a formal transaction.
A spokeswoman for Xeris told Bloomberg that the company is "not for sale" and remains "laser focused on improving patient lives by developing and commercializing" its therapeutic portfolio. Xeris currently focuses on therapies for endocrine and rare diseases, anchoring its commercial portfolio around three approved treatments, including Recorlev for Cushing’s syndrome.
Beyond its on-market portfolio, Xeris is developing a once-weekly injection for hypothyroidism, an innovation designed to replace traditional daily oral dosing regimens. While Lundbeck traditionally specializes in neurological and psychiatric conditions such as Parkinson's disease and schizophrenia, its majority owner, the Lundbeck Foundation, has previously backed research into brain-targeted injectables for metabolic disorders.
Against that backdrop, any potential deal would expand Lundbeck’s footprint into rare endocrine disorders while broadening its exposure to specialized formulation technologies. For now, market participants will likely monitor whether Lundbeck submits a formal proposal or if Xeris maintains its independent trajectory.
