Light vehicle tire shipments rose 3.8% in June, data shows
Investing.com -- Replacement tire shipments for light vehicles in the United States increased 3.8% year-over-year in June 2026, according to data released by the US Tire Manufacturers Association on July 13. The increase marked a recovery from a 2.9% decline recorded in May.
Morgan Stanley said the shipment data suggests inventory adjustments at dealerships and distribution channels are nearing completion. The firm views the development as neutral for the tire industry.
Total sales for the January through June period declined 4.6% compared to the same period in 2025.
The USTMA data includes figures from member companies, which comprise four Japanese tire manufacturers, but excludes imported tires from non-member companies. Morgan Stanley noted that low-price imports not captured in the USTMA data remain a factor to monitor.
Replacement commercial truck tire sales fell 7.3% year-over-year in June, though this represented an improvement from the 12.9% decline seen across the full January to June period.
Original equipment shipments for June showed light vehicle tires down 1.4% year-over-year, while commercial truck tires rose 2.1%.
Morgan Stanley said crude oil price fluctuations continue to affect raw material costs, and changes in gasoline prices influence vehicle mileage patterns, which affect tire replacement cycles.
