Jefferies reviews India quick commerce discounting in Bangalore

Investing.com -- Jefferies released findings from its August grocery basket comparison across quick commerce platforms in Bangalore, showing that discounting remains a primary customer acquisition tool while overall intensity continues to moderate.

The investment bank's August checks revealed headline discounts ranging from 7% to 20% across platforms. Zepto and Flipkart XtraSaver led with approximately 20% discounts, followed by DMart Ready and Amazon Now. Flipkart Minutes and JioMart offered around 18%, while Blinkit stood at roughly 16%. Swiggy Instamart and Maxxsaver maintained approximately 13%, and BB Now reduced discounting to about 7%.

When including cashback offers, Amazon Now's value proposition improved, while other platforms primarily offered payment incentives for repeat purchases.

Discounting varied by product category, with personal care showing the highest rate at 28%, followed by basic staples and packaged foods at 17%, home care at 14%, and beverages at 9%. Dairy remained the lowest-discounted category at 6%.

Zepto's discount levels remained stable across recent checks. Flipkart XtraSaver maintained an aggressive approach, while Flipkart Minutes and Amazon Now reduced discounts. BB Now decreased discounting levels. Blinkit and Swiggy Instamart did not rank as the lowest-priced option for any product in the sample.

Blinkit and Swiggy Instamart kept discounts stable at 13% to 16% since March. Swiggy Instamart and Maxxsaver showed minimal price differences.

Free delivery thresholds varied across platforms. Amazon Now Prime and Flipkart Minutes offered free delivery above Rs99, while Amazon Now Non-Prime set the threshold at Rs149. Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart and BB Now maintained the highest threshold at Rs199. Zepto raised its minimum order value for free delivery to Rs149 from Rs99.

SensorTower data showed monthly active user growth for most platforms except JioMart. App downloads showed mixed results, with JioMart declining 23% month-over-month and DMart down 2%, while other platforms posted growth.
