January jobs report delayed due to partial government shutdown
Investing.com -- The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) will not release the January jobs report on Friday, February 6, 2026, as originally scheduled due to the ongoing partial government shutdown, Barron’s reported Monday.
Unlike the previous shutdown last fall that affected the entire federal government, the current shutdown is only a partial funding lapse. However, the Labor Department, which houses the BLS, is among the agencies impacted by the delayed funding package currently awaiting action in the House of Representatives.
A BLS spokesperson confirmed to Barron’s on Monday that even if lawmakers manage to restore funding soon, several key economic reports scheduled for this week will be delayed.
In addition to the January employment situation report, the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) for December 2025 will be delayed.
The agency spokesperson indicated that new release dates for these economic reports will be announced once government funding is restored.
