Intel, Amkor on AI optimism; eBay slips
Investing.com - U.S. stock futures edged higher on Friday, recovering after a broad selloff in the previous session as investors weighed persistent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East against another wave of upbeat corporate earnings and artificial intelligence-related announcements.
By 05:47 ET (09:47 GMT), Dow Jones Futures rose 277 points, or 0.5%, S&P 500 Futures gained 21 points, or 0.3%, and Nasdaq 100 Futures advanced 72 points, or 0.3%.
Markets were attempting to stabilize after renewed fears of a widening conflict in the Middle East drove oil prices sharply higher on Thursday. Investors also continued to digest second-quarter earnings, with several technology companies offering fresh evidence that AI spending remains resilient despite broader market volatility.
Here are some of the biggest premarket U.S. stock movers today:
Intel surged 6% in premarket trading after the chipmaker forecast third-quarter revenue above Wall Street expectations and raised its 2026 capital expenditure plan to $20 billion from $18 billion.
The upbeat outlook reflected growing adoption of Intel’s data center CPUs by customers building AI infrastructure, reinforcing optimism that the company is beginning to benefit from the industry’s AI investment cycle.
Amkor Technology jumped 10.8% after announcing a $1.5 billion multi-year strategic partnership with Nvidia to expand advanced semiconductor packaging capacity in the United States.
Under the agreement, Nvidia will provide a prepayment to support the expansion of Amkor’s Arizona operations, with the companies collaborating on next-generation packaging technologies for AI and accelerated computing platforms.
Noodles & Company rallied 12.8% after the restaurant chain reported second-quarter results that comfortably exceeded expectations.
The company posted adjusted earnings of $0.18 per share, compared with analyst expectations for a loss of $0.08, while revenue of $127 million also topped forecasts, helped by stronger-than-expected sales performance.
Verizon Communications gained 2.2% after the telecom company reported second-quarter earnings, extending its track record of consistently outperforming Wall Street expectations.
Investors had anticipated adjusted earnings of roughly $1.27 to $1.28 per share on revenue of about $35.2 billion heading into the report.
MannKind rose 6% after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Furoscix ReadyFlow for the treatment of edema in adults with heart failure or chronic kidney disease.
The company also announced a $50 million private placement, providing additional funding following the regulatory approval.
Charter Communications fell 3.9% despite reporting second-quarter earnings that topped expectations.
While adjusted earnings per share exceeded estimates, revenue narrowly missed forecasts and the cable operator lost 172,000 broadband subscribers during the quarter, highlighting intensifying competition from fiber and fixed-wireless providers.
eBay slipped 3.7% as investors reacted to Meta Platforms’ launch of a dedicated Seller app for Facebook Marketplace, fueling concerns that the social media giant is targeting eBay’s core seller base.
MaxLinear dropped 10.3% despite reporting second-quarter earnings and revenue ahead of Wall Street expectations.
The decline reflected a "sell the news" reaction after shares had rallied into the results, even as the company highlighted strong growth in AI-related data center infrastructure revenue.
