Greece's Papandreou to Form New Government

June 15, 2011 5:13 PM EDT
Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou has said he will reshuffle his cabinet on Thursday as the chief looks to put pressure on so-called rebel lawmakers to support austerity measures.

Speaking to citizens on Greece's NET TV earlier, Papandreou said, "Our duty is to the nation, not to political parties. Tomorrow I will form a new government and immediately afterwards seek a vote of confidence in Parliament. It is a time for responsibility."

The decision comes as the EU waits to launch a $110 billion five-year aid plan for the troubled country. Details including specific budget cuts and asset sales are expected by the end of this month.
