Fed Set to Announce QE2; Will Involve Gradual Bond Buying
The Federal Reserve's new monetary stimulus measure, or QE2, will be unveiled next week according to reports from the Wall Street Journal.
The Fed is expected to announced a program of U.S. Treasury bond purchases worth a few hundred billion dollars over several months. This will be different from the nearly $2 trillion program during the financial crisis.
The announcement is expected upon the conclusion of a two-day meeting next Wednesday.
The restarting of the bond buying program has been greeted with deep skepticism. Kansas City Fed President Thomas Hoenig said it is a "bargain with the devil."
