Investing.com -- Citi analyzed 30-day implied volatility for utility stocks as the third quarter of 2026 approaches its conclusion.
Several companies showed elevated implied volatility levels, with PG&E Corp (NYSE: PCG), NRG Energy (NYSE: NRG), Constellation Energy (NASDAQ: CEG), Edison International (NYSE: EIX), and Ormat Technologies (NYSE: ORA) leading the group.
California utilities faced higher volatility due to legislative outcomes, while independent power producers dealt with uncertainty around datacenter policy and business models. Ormat Technologies has an upcoming analyst day.
NRG Energy was the only company in the group that saw implied volatility increase over the past two weeks. Evergy (NYSE: EVRG) remained unchanged, while most other stocks in the group saw volatility decline.
The largest decreases in implied volatility over the two-week period occurred in stocks that started with the highest levels, led by NET Power followed by Sempra Energy (NYSE: SRE).
Consolidated Edison (NYSE: ED) showed the lowest implied volatility in the range. Other utilities near the bottom included Atmos Energy (NYSE: ATO), Evergy, Duke Energy (NYSE: DUK), WEC Energy Group (NYSE: WEC), Southern Company (NYSE: SO), and CMS Energy (NYSE: CMS).
