China's Covid-19 Vaccine is 86% Effective - UAE
A Covid-19 vaccine developed by China’s Sinopharm CNBG demonstrated an 86% efficacy rate, according to the Ministry of Health of the United Arab Emirates.
The UAE state agency WAM said that the data from the Phase 3 trial yielded a positive outcome. The Phase 3 trial included 31,000 volunteers across 125 nationalities, it is said in the statement. Volunteers received two doses of vaccine in a gap of 21 days.
UAE approved the emergency use of Sinopharm’s vaccine for health workers in September. According to the Health Minister, trials showed no serious safety concerns. After the latest Phase 3 results, the Ministry approved the mass use of the vaccine.
“The registration of this vaccine is a decision in response to the application from Sinopharm CNBG. The announcement is a significant vote of confidence by the UAE’s health authorities in the safety and efficacy of this vaccine,” the health ministry said today.
“The analysis also shows the vaccine to have 99 percent seroconversion rate of neutralising antibody and 100 percent effectiveness in preventing moderate and severe cases of the disease.”
Sinopharm Chairman Liu Jingzhen said earlier that his company has the capacity to produce over 1 billion doses in 2021.
