Budget Director Orszag to Leave Obama Administration

White House Budget Director Peter Orszag will be leaving his position in July, making him the highest level senior official to step down from President Barack Obama’s administration, according to people familiar with the matter.

Orszag helped to guide the country through the $797 billion economic stimulus bill that was put in place to prevent a complete collapse of the financial system, as well as taking a primary role in bringing about the reform in the health-care system.

Orszag had been under pressure to make a decision on his future as the administration begins to put together the fiscal 2011 budget during a period of extreme pressure on the government’s finances.

A democratic official announced Monday that Orszag will be stepping down, but the official revealed the news under a condition of anonymity due to the decision not being announced.

A spokesman for Orszag, Kenneth Baer said of the news that, “Peter's focused on his work, not on Washington speculation."

Orszag, 41, came to his latest position from a post as the director of the Congressional Budget Office, and has also served as on former President Bill Clinton’s administration as an assistant for economic policy and as a senior adviser at the National Economic Council.

He is also set to marry Bianna Golodryga, a business reporter for ABC News in September, and will look to restart his life, according to a person familiar with the situation.
