Apple's bold new smart home revolution is coming

According to reporting from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is preparing an aggressive push into the living room with an AI-powered command center designed to sit at the heart of your home.

The core of Apple’s immediate strategy centers on a new wall- or desk-mounted smart display featuring a roughly 7-inch square screen. Powered by a customized operating system that blends elements of tvOS, watchOS, and iOS, the UI relies on a familiar grid of apps, interactive widgets, and customizable Apple Watch-style clock faces.

What sets the hub apart is its built-in facial recognition and spatial sensing technology. The onboard camera identifies who is looking at the display and measures their distance, automatically resizing text and adjusting the UI in real time. It brings up personalized content—such as private notes or individual calendar events—tailored specifically to whoever is standing in front of it.

Beyond smart interface tricks, the device serves as a comprehensive household manager. It handles FaceTime video calls, acts as a home intercom across Apple devices, monitors security, and directly controls smart home hardware like lights, locks, and speakers.

To support this initial wave, Apple is also cueing up hardware refreshes for both the Apple TV set-top box and the HomePod mini. While Apple’s previous home offerings have generated relatively modest sales compared to its juggernaut wearables line, this AI-driven hardware directly targets competitors like Amazon’s Echo Show and Google’s Nest Hub.

Crucially, this three-device lineup is just the warm-up. These initial Siri AI-powered products serve as precursors to at least two even more futuristic devices. Leading that next generation is a premium, robotic version of the home hub featuring a motorized, robotic limb. This mechanical arm allows the display to physically swivel, tilt, and track users as they move around a room, enabling the screen to directly face and interact with people during conversations or video calls.
