"We’ll probably have a shutdown," says Trump

Investing.com -- President Donald Trump said Tuesday that the United States is likely heading toward its 15th government shutdown since 1981, warning that his administration could make permanent changes during such a scenario.

"We’ll probably have a shutdown," Trump told reporters at the White House.

The president suggested Democrats were taking a risk in their negotiations over government spending, adding that his administration has the power to cut benefits during a shutdown.

"We can do things in a shutdown that are irreversible," Trump said, but didn’t specify which actions he’s considering taking.

When asked about the ongoing government spending negotiations, Trump initially responded, "We’re going to see what happens."
