Bitcoin Surges Past $1000
Virtual currency bitcoin continues to surge and today crossed above the $1000 level for the first time. The currency last traded at $1020.
While many view the price of bitcoin as a bubble, with only 12 million bitcoins currently in circulation, out of a grand total of 21 million that can be mined, others see the price going up higher still.
Bitcoin has been on a tear since this month's U.S. Congressional hearing, where regulators suggested that it can be a legal means of exchange. Bitcoin is up 374% since the start of November.
