Bitcoin Rebounds Following China Scare; Still Down ~50% in 2014

April 11, 2014 12:29 PM EDT

Bitcoin is up slightly following a China-related sell-off on Thursday.

The virtual currency dipped below $400 for the first time since last November on news that two of the largest Bitcoin exchanges in China said their accounts at certain domestic banks would be shut down by next week. Expectations of further crackdown in China drove Bitcoin lower.

Bitcoin hit $360 yesterday and, even with today's rebound, is still down about 50 percent since the beginning of 2014.
